What Moves The World

"Where can you read that in the scriptures?" she asked.
"Nowhere," I replied closing my scriptures. We had reached the point of our discussion that I knew would come. She wanted proof from the scriptures and all I had was faith. Faith that what the Prophet has asked of us is what the Lord wants of us.

Faith is the driving force in our lives. Without faith we wouldn't even have a reason to get out of bed in the morning. Yet, every morning up we get and on to life with faith that we will make it to the end of another day. All because of faith the world keeps on moving. No real proof of anything, many theories and ideas that science has given but no real proof of anything. We simply live by faith. For me faith is enough. In the end I've seen that getting up in the morning and going to work allows me money and joy. In this sense I have come to know that if I work I'll make money. I still need faith that it will really happen but you could say that it is a knowledge I have come to gain. For the most part it works too ;)

My faith in the gospel is much the same. We could read all day long yet without faith what do any of the words mean? When you decide to have faith in the Lord and His teachings, just like getting up each morning, you begin to see the effects of it and you come to know it is true. We must be willing to work at it and try it for a time. Alma explained this by comparing faith to planting a seed, he said:

"whatsoever is light, is bgood, because it is discernible, therefore ye must know that it is good; and now behold, after ye have tasted this light is your knowledge perfect?
Behold I say unto you, Nay; neither must ye lay aside your faith, for ye have only exercised your faith to plant the seed that ye might try the experiment to know if the seed was good.

And behold, as the tree beginneth to grow, ye will say: Let us nourish it with great care, that it may get root, that it may grow up, and bring forth fruit unto us. And now behold, if ye nourish it with much care it will get root, and grow up, and bring forth fruit.

But if ye aneglect the tree, and take no thought for its nourishment, behold it will not get any root; and when the heat of the sun cometh and scorcheth it, because it hath no root it withers away, and ye pluck it up and cast it out.

Now, this is not because the seed was not good, neither is it because the fruit thereof would not be desirable; but it is because your aground is bbarren, and ye will not nourish the tree, therefore ye cannot have the fruit thereof.

And thus, if ye will not nourish the word, looking forward with an eye of faith to the fruit thereof, ye can never pluck of the fruit of the atree of life." Alma 32:35-40

Results don't come right away but keep believing, keep trusting. Have faith and we will one day eat of the fruit of the tree of life together! :)
